Our History
In 1929, Italian immigrant John Surico founded the Fairview Block Company in Poughkeepsie, New York. Fairview Block produced concrete blocks and precast concrete products, as well as a range of brick, stone, cement and other materials needed for masonry fireplaces. The company supplied masons, home builders, and condominium developers in New York’s Hudson Valley and Connecticut’s Fairfield and Litchfield Counties for many years.
Fairview Hearthside Distributors was established to sell and install factory-built wood-burning and gas-fired fireplaces. The masonry section was eventually closed and the company concentrated on hearth products. Today, Fairview Hearthside offers traditional and modern fireplaces, as well as furnace flue venting systems. The company is now owned by John Surico’s grandson and great grandson.
Fairview Cast Stone was founded to service the strong residential market for surrounds and hearths. This very elegant and reasonably priced product, is now widely used for wood burning, gas-fired, and even electric fireplaces. Cast stone fireplace surrounds and hearths have become very popular with interior designers and architects. Fairview Cast Stone remains at the original Poughkeepsie location.
Great grandson Paul and grandson Jack continue the Fairview legacy.
